Explorer Duck Hunter 15 by Mad River Canoes offers classic styling paired with uncompromising functionality and as such is at the top of the tree when it comes to quality canoes.
There is no mistaking the classic look and lines of Mad River's Duck Hunter canoe. Its olive drab hull, cane seats, and slotted wood gunwales harken back to a simpler, more elegant era where quality and form were derived from pride and workmanship.
The new Duckhunter 15 is an exact match of the original, yet at 14'9" and 63 pounds it's about 14" shorter and almost 10 pounds lighter. Ideal for sportsmen navigating the twisty marshes by the coast or for any paddler who appreciates its timeless design.
To many there nothing like a wood gunwaled canoe. The Duck Hunters are crafted from native white American ash specially chosen for its long, straight, tight grain providing strength, stiffness and a touch of flex. With a little loving maintenance the wood will last for years.
The hulls shallow vee hul offers the most versatile hull cross section with high stability, rough water performance and better tracking. It is also more ridged in nature and can be leaned into a turn to produce a better rate of directional change. Its moderate rocker length provides good balance between maneuvering and speed.
The Hull is constructed of Royalex RX, Mad Rivers Vacuum formed sheet laminate of external vinyl layers enclosing multiple ABS plastic layers and foam core. Royalex is very resistant to impact and has memory to bounce back to shape. It is also repairable.
